Verified by Swappie: Get a used iPhone checked before the sale

We’ve launched Verified by Swappie at verify.swappie.com. When you buy or sell a used iPhone privately, for example on online marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace, or give one to a friend or family member, you can now have the phone inspected and erased by Swappie before it reaches its new owner.

With Verified by Swappie, you get the same verification we give our own phones. Since 2016, we’ve bought and sold over 4 million of them. We asked people who had looked for a used iPhone from a private seller what made them hesitate. Over 50% named the seller’s honesty, and about 40% worried the phone could be stolen or have hidden faults.

The phone is inspected and erased before it reaches its new owner
The whole process takes a few days. The seller ships the phone to our lab with a prepaid shipping code. The phone gets a 52-step inspection covering lock and stolen-device status, every function and battery health, and is professionally erased. The result is an online report anyone can check with the verification ID and IMEI.

A phone that passes ships to its new owner. If it fails, the phone goes back to the seller, return included. Later, you’ll also be able to sell a failed phone to Swappie.

The service starts with iPhones in Finland
The service is available today in Finland and covers iPhones. We plan to add other electronics we already refurbish, such as iPads and MacBooks. The launch supports our mission to make refurbished electronics mainstream: the easier it is to trust a used phone, the more used phones stay in use.
