One important built-in feature of any smartphone is taking screenshots, whether you want a capture an odd technical bug, a funny picture on social media or something completely different. With Apple’s iPhones, taking screenshots can be confusing at times, especially if you have just upgraded your iPhone to a newer model.
With the release of iPhone X, Apple got rid of the home button to make room for more screen. Because of this, the way you now take screenshots or power off your phone also changed.
Next, we’re going to walk you through the simple process of taking screenshots with your iPhone. There are three different ways to take a screenshot depending on the model of your Apple iPhone. Follow these instructions so that you don’t have to download any third-party apps in order to take screenshots.
There is no home button on newer iPhone models. Because of this, you might be scratching your head if you are used to using the home button to take screenshots. To capture your iPhone’s screen on newer models, you have to use the side buttons instead. Here’s how to do it.
Press the power button and the volume up button located on the opposite side of the phone. Do not hold down the buttons, but just press them down simultaneously and then release both.
That’s it! No other tricks needed.
Here’s what to do to take screenshots with older iPhone models that still have the home button as well as a side button. This includes the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 as well as the newer iPhone SE 2020 for instance.
In order to take a screenshot, press down and immediately release both the home button and the side button of the iPhone.
The iPhone SE (1st generation) and older iPhone models have a top button instead of the side button. By now you might have guessed how taking screenshots works, based on the other two examples.
To take a screenshot with these older Apple smartphones, press and release the home button as well as the top button at the same time.
Now you should be able to take screenshots with your iPhone, regardless of the model. Just make sure that you are pressing both buttons at the same time and not holding them down for too long.
Now to access the screenshots, navigate first to “Photos”. There you’ll find “Screenshots” in the “Albums” -view. Now you can check out all of the screenshots saved on your iPhone.
