Verified by Swappie: Get a used iPhone tested before the sale

We’ve launched Verified by Swappie in Finland at verify.swappie.com. When you buy or sell a used iPhone privately, for example on an online marketplace, or give one to a friend or family member, you can now have the phone tested and erased by Swappie before it reaches its new owner. Either the buyer or the seller can order the service.

We asked people who had recently looked for a used iPhone from a private seller what made them hesitate. The most common worry was the seller’s honesty, followed by the phone being stolen or having hidden faults. With Verified by Swappie, you get the same testing we use for the phones we sell ourselves. We’ve been refurbishing phones for 10 years.

The phone is tested and erased before it reaches its new owner
The whole process takes a few days. The seller ships the phone to our lab with a prepaid shipping code. We test the phone across its display, frame, buttons, camera, microphone, touch sensitivity, battery and every other function that matters in daily use, and check that it isn’t locked or reported stolen. Then we professionally erase it. The result is an online report anyone can check with the verification ID and the phone’s IMEI.

If the phone passes, it ships to its new owner. If it fails, it goes back to the seller, with return shipping included.

For now, the service covers iPhones in Finland. We plan to expand it to more devices over time. The service supports our mission to make refurbished electronics mainstream. The easier it is to trust a used phone, the more used phones stay in use.
